Indian Wells is the smallest of the Coachella Valley communities with about 5,000 residents, but it is by far the most affluent. Indian Wells is said to have the highest proportion per-capita of millionaires of any city in the United States. The large estate homes are very private, and the country clubs very exclusive. This community is truly a playground for the rich and famous. Several major sporting events are held each year in Indian Wells, including the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic golf tournament and the Indian Wells Masters tennis tournament, also currently known as the Pacific Life Open, after its sponsor.
