The Movie Colony

The Movie Colony itself is relatively small, with less than 200 homes, and is centrally located and very convenient to downtown Palm Springs. Here we find a mix of large estates with generously sized lots, with others having smaller ones. Those built in the 1930’s were often tennis estates with large grounds to serve as very private playgrounds to stars that convened here to escape the scrutiny of Los Angeles and Hollywood. The style chosen for these earlier Palm Springs homes was usually Spanish. The homeowners association here proudly proclaims the neighborhood as owing its prestige to an “identity of glory and splendor of Old Hollywood”.

The Movie Colony Neighborhood in Palm Springs

The Movie Colony is adjacent to two fine parks – Ruth Hardy Park with tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, inviting picnic areas with tables and barbeque grills, and large open fields. The second and newer park, covering 5 acres, was dedicated in 2005 and is called The Wellness Park. It offers a walking loop interspersed with exercise/fitness stations and four peaceful gardens for meditation.

If the glory of its history, the charm and elegance of its homes, and the close proximity to The Village appeal to you, Movie Colony may be the neighborhood where you’d like to make your home. Contact Dick to help you explore Movie Colony to find that one special home, just waiting for you.
