Palm Springs

Palm Springs

Palm Springs is the magical desert resort city, known world-wide as the “Playground of the Stars”. Many Hollywood celebrities still have homes in the greater Palm Springs area. Palm Springs itself is a relatively small city with a really big reputation. Its legacy, amenities, and cachet are usually reserved for large, metropolitan cities, but people here take it all in stride. Palm Springs is the fourth largest city in the valley, with a population of approximately 44,579 (according to 2020 census) full time residents, which triples during the “snowbird season” from November through March every year.

Palm Springs lies at the foot of one of Southern California’s most majestic mountain peaks, the 10,834 ft.Mount San Jacinto, whose eastern flank literally abuts the downtown and dominates our western skyline. Located approximately 110 miles east of Los Angeles, Palm Springs is home to many resorts with champion quality golf courses. Swimming, tennis, horseback riding, and hiking in the desert and mountain areas are other major activities available year around.

If the sporting life isn’t of interest and you get tired of lying around the pool, there are still plenty of other attractions to occupy your time, including several seasonal stage shows, 24 hour casino gaming, art galleries, numerous restaurants and nightclubs and, of course, shopping and a day at a spa. Every Thursday evening the main downtown thoroughfare – Palm Canyon Drive, is transformed into a street fair called “VillageFest”, featuring ethnic delicacies, a Farmers Market, crafts, music, and all sorts of other entertainment. On the first Friday of every month there is a free art walk called, not surprisingly, “First Friday”, with many art galleries offering wine and cheese to entice customers to stop in and shop. So, for a “small town”, there’s a lot going on.

With more than 350 days of sunshine each year and warm, mild winters, our weather is really the biggest draw. It is not at all unusual in the winter to swim on a balmy 80 degree day, while looking up at freshly fallen snow on the peaks of the San Jacinto Mountains. With all of this to offer, Palm Springs is truly a magical place to call home – a place to take a deep breath at the end of the day, and relax. There are plenty of reasons to choose a piece of Palm Springs Real Estate for your very own getaway

In August, the average housing price of a detached home for Palm Springs was $1,270,133 and $445,671 for attached homes  (condos) while the median household income was only $61,597.
