Tennis Club

With its origins dating back to the early 20’s when it began as an irrigated fruit grove, the historic Tennis Club area is known as the oldest neighborhood in Palm Springs. It takes its name from the prestigious Tennis Club founded there in 1937; the east side of the neighborhood is immediately adjacent to downtown Palm Springs, while homes to the west are built right up to the San Jacinto Mountains, steeply rising from the desert floor.

Here in Tennis Club, one will find only 240 single family residences and lots of condos and small boutique hotels such as Orbit In (note the spelling of their name) and Casa Cody, an historic hacienda style inn, dating back to the 1920’s when it was founded by Harriet Cody, the sister of Buffalo Bill!. Legend has it that Albert Einstein once stayed in another of these boutique inns. The single family homes here were also often built in the style influenced by Spanish architecture and adobe construction.

The Tennis Club Neighborhood in Palm Springs

The Tennis Club neighborhood still is home to the original Tennis Club, and the neighborhood also encompasses the Palm Springs Art Museum and two of our finer restaurants – Le Vallauris, itself a former residence of early Palm Springs residents, and Spencer’s at the Mountain. Up above, you can see where President Eisenhower once stayed in the historic McDonnell house, , regally perched on the mountainside overlooking the Tennis Club. This neighborhood is especially important and desirable because of its superb location, so close to the downtown – our Palm Springs Village; it’s easily walkable –“ just steps from downtown”, as they say.

Here in Tennis Club one will also find The Villas of Old Palm Springs, located right in heart of this historic area. The Villas were designed to resemble a Tuscan village, with one and two story villas lining cobblestone streets. Landscaping includes wrought iron entry gates and detailing, rustic woods, several fountains, and lush landscaping for the forty-seven luxury homes, built here in 2005 – 2006.

Dick really enjoys selling homes in this area and can find that special home for you in Tennis Club. For more information, and to get started in your search, call Dick.
